Better Day Society

When you choose to remember SMAA in your estate plans, you’ll become a member of the Better Day Society.

We are fortunate to have so many donors who understand the importance of sustaining our mission. We are increasingly dependent on individual, foundation and corporate donations as federal and state funding is no longer reliable. Maine is the oldest state by median age in the United States. We are on the leading edge of the wave of aging baby boomers.

Better Day Society members create a legacy of giving for future generations.

What is the Better Day Society?

Being a member of the Better Day Society means you’ve planned to leave a gift for the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) in your will. No matter the amount, your gift will ensure that the Agency’s programs will be sustained. Over the years, we have received gifts to support special extras for our Meals on Wheels recipients; support for arts programming and scholarships for our adult day centers supporting individuals with dementia; gifts to our Best Friend Fund to continue to support older people with unexpected pet care costs; or unrestricted gifts that support the good work of the Agency.

What are the Benefits of Joining?

Better Day Society members benefit in many ways. First and foremost, you know that your planned gift will be celebrated, honored and stewarded, no matter the size.

A bequest in your will to the Southern Maine Agency on Aging is exempt from federal and state estate taxes. A gift made by will, will not disrupt your current income or lifestyle – you will retain the use of your assets during your lifetime. You can also change your bequest should personal circumstances change.

Additionally, our Better Day Society members receive the following benefits:

  • Advance notice of Agency events and fundraisers.
  • Special recognition, if desired, in our Annual Report on Philanthropy.
  • Priority seating for all events dealing with estate planning, tax planning and other related workshops and seminars hosted by SMAA.
  • The satisfaction of knowing that their wishes will be honored to support older people in southern Maine.

How do I Join?

Share your intentions with us by contacting our development department, 207-396-6590 or development@smaaa.org. We understand that many of our donors wish to remain anonymous and we are happy to ensure their wishes are respected. Call today to learn more!
