Medicare Open Enrollment 2024
Open enrollment for Medicare happens every year from October 15-December 7. During this time, everyone is encouraged to review their plan for the following year and make any changes if needed. Medicare Advantage plans and prescription plans with original Medicare can make changes to the plans every year. Some examples of changes can include price, what medications are covered, who is in the network, and any extra benefits offered. You can review your plan on the Medicare.gov website or by calling Medicare directly.
SMAA offers appointments by phone, Zoom, and in-person (at select limited locations) to review your coverage with a certified SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) counselor. The SHIP volunteers are trained and able to provide unbiased, confidential, individual counseling. To schedule an appointment, click here or call 1.800.427.7411.

Medicare Plan Options for Your Health and Insurance Needs
Whether you are new to Medicare or you are an existing beneficiary, it is important to review your coverage options so you can make informed decisions about your health insurance.
The Medicare Plan Finder is an online tool offered by Medicare.gov that allows you to make a personalized search for Medicare plans that best meet your individual health insurance needs. You can compare costs and services for approved Medicare Advantage Plans (MAPs) and Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) offered in your coverage area.

There are programs available to help with the cost of Medicare coverage. To see if you qualify for financial assistance, please review our self-assessment Benefits checklist – 2024.
If you are eligible for the Medicare Savings Program or MaineCare, you can apply online. If you need assistance with the application, please, call a SMAA Resource Specialist at 1-800-427-7411.
The National Council on Aging offers a free Benefits Check Up tool that can help you determine if you qualify for benefits or savings programs available in your area.
