Partnerships & Collaborations

Amplifying impact together

Building strong community partnerships is essential as we work to address unprecedented social and economic crises. At Southern Maine Agency on Aging, we know that working in silos won’t help us solve the growing issues of the day. When we collaborate with other nonprofits and socially responsible businesses, we create lasting, positive change, together.

Strengthening and working in partnership with other agencies, results in:

  • Expansion – Reaching new segments of the community while improving the range of services available.
  • Innovation – Bringing in different individuals with different backgrounds,  provides fresh perspectives and innovative solutions.
  • Efficiency – Combining strengths and resources to provide faster and more effective support.
  • Mission advancement – Leveraging our collective voice to advocate for the needs of our community.

SMAA partners with many agencies, healthcare providers, municipalities, businesses, and individuals to meet our mission, including:

Community Connections

The Community Connections program is a project of the Governor’s Cabinet on Aging in collaboration with the UMaine Center on Aging and Maine’s five Area Agencies on Aging. The goal is to provide support that will allow Lifelong Maine’s Age-Friendly Communities (AFLCs) to further local age-friendly goals, expand resource connections, and increase capacity to connect residents to the services and programs they need to thrive.

As part of this effort, SMAA Community Ambassador Mary Hadlock is building closer relationships with age-friendly communities and other municipalities in Cumberland and York counties. The aim is for our agency to more closely understand each community’s unique strengths and needs, connect communities to SMAA resources, and, when appropriate, refer people to their Lifelong Communities for opportunities at the community level.
