We see you, caregivers

Do you assist an older friend or family member with managing day-to-day needs, finances, homemaking, medications, or emotional support? Then you are a family caregiver.

Caregiving can bring up an array of feelings and emotions. On good days you may feel a sense of purpose and fulfillment. On difficult days, you may feel frustrated and isolated. Sometimes, caregivers are so busy taking care of their loved one, that they overlook their own needs and become exhausted, making it difficult to continue caregiving. There are services and resources that can help you continue to provide needed care while also taking care of yourself.

November is National Family Caregiver Month and SMAA’s Family Caregiver team is empowering caregivers to access the resources they need to succeed. Self-identifying as a caregiver is critical in various settings to ensure the care recipient and the caregiver receive appropriate support. These include at your loved one’s doctor appointment, at your own healthcare provider, in the emergency room, at the pharmacy, at your place of employment, with friends, and with your faith community.

Please remember our team is here for you on this journey. You can call us, email us, set up an in-person appointment, or attend one of our monthly events including support groups, educational classes, and art and journaling outlets. With the proper support and tools, you can continue to provide care while taking care of yourself.

Thank you for all that you do as a caregiver. We see you and we appreciate all you do.
