Every Friday, Phern the therapy dog visits the Adult Day Program at the Sam L. Cohen Center in Biddeford. This sweet pup brings joy and laughter wherever she turns and members look forward to her company each week! Phern’s visits are made possible thanks to her owner/mom, Cynthia, a staff member at SMAA.

SMAA’s Adult Day Programs are geared toward older adults with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. We foster close personal relationships with and between members which stimulates the brain, effectively slowing down the memory loss process while combating depression and isolation. While their loved ones enjoy this home away from home, caregivers receive several hours of much-needed respite. We know the need for this kind of service is increasing, and in response are opening another Adult Day Program at our new Sanford/Springvale location later this summer!
