Resource Specialist - Family Caregiver Support
Southern Maine Agency on Aging has an opening for a full time (40 hours per week) Resource Specialist-Family Caregiver Support at our Scarborough, Maine office.  This position will work as a member of Community Services and will perform functions that focus on providing information and referral for caregivers, education and training to make caregiving easier, options counseling, assistance in accessing supports, and education to the community regarding caregiver issues and agency programs.  This position will also assist with grant-funded, fee for service programs, and general Community Services duties. Work schedule may include occasional evening and/or weekend work to meet community needs.

Education/Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Gerontology, or related field.
  • Social Work License (preferred)
  • At least two years of community experience in working with older people, adults with disabilities and caregivers with demonstrated knowledge of resources and benefit programs.
  • Ability to offer training and/or speak publicly on a range of topics of importance to family caregivers, service providers, employers, and other members of the community.
  • Experience in facilitating support groups (preferred)
  • Critical thinking skills such as analytical and problem solving skills to assess and evaluate situations and needs to resolve issues of varied levels of complexity.
  • Excellent writing, communication, listening and interpersonal skills as Specialist interacts with a wide variety of staff, consumers, family members, caregivers, community service providers and other agencies.
